Serving Christ and sharing the Gospel

Food Share at St Michael’s Church

St Michael’s Church aims to help meet the needs of local people. Our FOOD SHARE project started in 2021 sees us working with a local charity to provide food parcels to those in Gidea Park and the surrounding areas.  A typical food parcel includes bread, bakery items, fresh fruit and vegetables and these are donated by local supermarkets. We aim to support local households who apply for food share via the email below.

The Church is committed to supporting our local community especially during the growing cost of living hardship many are facing and this scheme presents an opportunity for us to support our local community and reduce food waste.

So what is “Food Share” exactly?

At St Michael’s Church we accept donations of fresh groceries from local Supermarkets and turn them into food parcels once a month on the second Sunday of the month.

Once you have registered you will be sent an email around a week before each food share with all the details, including the time and place of collection.

Who can apply for a “Food Share” Parcel?

Anyone living in Gidea Park/Romford or surrounding area experiencing financial hardship can apply for a Food Parcel. We are particularly keen to assist families finding it difficult to provide food for their children.

Who donates the groceries and what will be in my “Food Share” parcel?

We currently receive donations from local Supermarkets. A typical parcel will contain bread, bakery, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables. We occasionally receive other items, for example, tins, pasta and cereal.

What we are about:

St Michael’s Church is committed to being a welcoming Christian fellowship in the heart of our community. So, this opportunity is a practical expression of this.

We are pleased to be able to work with FareShare to help reduce food waste by distributing fresh food to local people – food that would otherwise have been thrown away.
